Baldock Town Football Club have organised a charity football match this Sunday September 9th to raise funds for one of their players, Michael Masters.
Michael, of Park Close, Baldock, an young exciting wide player, played football with Baldock Town Youth FC and then moved on to play for the successful senior team, formed in 2003.
Unfortunately in April this year at the age of 20, he suffered a horrific accident on the London Underground when his leg became trapped between a train and the platform, resulting in him being dragged several metres down the station. As a result, he was very seriously injured and had to have the whole of his left leg amputated. He has since made a remarkable recovery and is living back at home.
Hertfordshire FA kindly offered the County Ground, Letchworth free of charge for the charity game and it is a way for his fellow players and supporters alike to raise money for him and show their support. Michael’s last game was in last season’s Herts Junior Cup Final in April, which Baldock narrowly lost 5-4 to Kings Sports.
Baldock Town have now moved up this season to the Herts Senior County League and continue to be sponsored by Arena Security. Despite the higher playing standard, the team has won each of their first 5 league games this season and are top of Division One.
The game on Sunday will be played between the current side and a team assembled by Gary Roberts, ex Baldock Town Manager and now manager at Cambridge City. Gary has recalled players from the former Southern League side he had 6-7 years ago. Some of the names on show include Ian Allinson, ex Baldock manager and current Stotfold manager, fans favourites Marcelle Bruce, Steve Cook and Darren Fenton and also Reds Legend Paddy Stanton, who played over 500 games for the club.
The Club is asking for everyone’s support in attending. Kick-off is at 2pm. Admission is £5 Adults, £2 Concessions and all proceeds will go to Michael.
After the match, the club along with Alan & Lesley at The White Hart in Baldock, would like to invite everyone back for a BBQ, Raffle and Disco to round off what we hope will be a successful day for Michael, who will be attending the event.
